circumcision, and so miss Jesus, miss out on the righteousness God promised to Abraham. Circumcision was a sign of God’s covenant with Abraham. That covenant promised righteousness and the Spirit who comes through the ‘seed’ of Abraham—Jesus Christ. The reason that circumcision was the sign was because it was focused not on the nation as a whole but on the one descendant of Abraham through whom the promises would become a reality.
